2020 Nissan Kicks yellow goop

My coworker showed me the oil cap from her '20 Kicks and asked if something was wrong. I don't know much about it, TBH. I have never seen anything quite like it. There was this weird yellow goop on it, kinda like the texture of whipped butter. Looked gross but didn't smell burnt or anything. She just had an oil change like 1,500 miles ago, and she keeps up with maintenance pretty well.

What is this? Is this moisture? Condensation? Or should she be prepping for something more serious?

That yellowish stuff is usually a sign of moisture mixing with the oil often called "mayonnaise" in the car world. It can happen if the car doesn't get enough long drives to fully warm up and evaporate condensation, especially in colder or humid climates. If she's driving mostly short trips and the engine isn't hitting full temp regularly, this is pretty common and not immediately serious.
That said, if it's persistent or she starts noticing other symptoms like overheating, oil level drops, or weird noises, it might be worth digging deeper to rule out head gasket issues or coolant leaks but for now, no need to panic

@Kick_ass gave a pretty good explanation about what it might be, and it probably is. The problem is that it could be a much bigger issue, so it's a good idea to keep an eye on this. I would recommend checking the dipstick to see if the oil looks like oil or not. If you see the same on the dipstick, then you're destined for a visit to the mechanic.
